All speakers have different ratings and that is what you need to look at. The maximum output is what you really need to be concerned about. Make sure that your speaker is rated at or slightly above what your amp puts out.
Bass takes lots of power. How much you really need depends on many factors, such as
size of the room
location of the sub
efficiency (type of enclosure) of the sub
how loud you like to play the system
how low a bass you expect to feed (organ music and some rock can put out very low frequencies).
If you can find a 100W amplifier, that should be a reasonable compromise. Check the power rating of the speaker. Get as much amp power as you can afford without exceeding the speaker’s rating. There is no such thing as “too much” amplifier power as long as you can’t overdrive the woofer.
